Do you know what your pre-teens (and other kids) are watching?

With the arrival of the holiday season, a well-deserved rest is in order. Enjoying the screens and the good they have to offer is fine (in moderation!).

It is, however, worth taking time to know what your pre-teens and children are watching.

Yesterday, I went into a shop in which a young girl was watching what sounded like cartoons on her mom’s phone, in the presence and ear shot of her mom.

Her mom (the shop owner) was quite busy. As I waited to be served, I found myself idly listening to what she was watching.

I must say I got a bit of a jolt. It was content that was not appropriate for this child. It was not appropriate for me either (and I am an adult!).

On the surface, the voices and characters were certainly child friendly, but the subject matter they were talking about was not.

I am certain her busy mom would be alarmed if she had the chance to actually listen.

It is good to vet what your pre-teens and children watch, before they watch it.

Even better still, where or if possible, watch together with them so that you have the opportunity to discuss the content and shape the values and attitudes they will live by.
